{"id":892,"date":"2018-07-19T07:53:30","date_gmt":"2018-07-19T07:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swissdatacube.org\/?p=892"},"modified":"2018-07-19T09:59:10","modified_gmt":"2018-07-19T09:59:10","slug":"snowcover-ch-monitoring-snow-cover-changes-over-switzerland-using-earth-observations-time-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swissdatacube.org\/index.php\/2018\/07\/19\/snowcover-ch-monitoring-snow-cover-changes-over-switzerland-using-earth-observations-time-series\/","title":{"rendered":"SnowCover.CH: Monitoring Snow Cover changes over Switzerland using Earth Observations time-series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have received the good news that the project <em>&#8220;SnowCover.CH: Monitoring Snow Cover changes over Switzerland using Earth Observations time-series&#8221;<\/em> has been accepted.<\/p>\n<p>This project jointly lead by UNIGE\/GRID (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unige.ch\/envirospace\/people\/giuliani\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Gregory Giuliani<\/a>) &amp; UZH\/RSL (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geo.uzh.ch\/~daves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. David Small<\/a>) is supported by the <a href=\"http:\/\/uzh.unige-cofunds.ch\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNIGE-UZH Joint Seed Funding<\/a>.\u00a0Since mid-December 2017 the University of Zurich and the University of Geneva are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unige.ch\/communication\/communiques\/en\/2017\/partenariat-strategique-entre-les-universites-de-geneve-et-zurich\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">officially strategic partners<\/a> for Digital Science and Citizen Science.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of the SnowCover.CH project is to\u00a0bring together expertise of UZH\/RSL on Synthetic-Aperture Radar (SAR) data processing for snow analysis and UNIGE on the Swiss Data Cube. \u00a0The expected outcomes of this project are a complete and up-to-date archive of ESA\/Sentinel-1 SAR data for Switzerland in the Swiss Data Cube allowing the development of an integrated and innovative solution for monitoring snow cover and its variability across the entire country.\u00a0SAR images are effective and robust measures to identify melting snow, whereas optical data are able to identify snow cover extension.<\/p>\n<p>The project will start in September 2018 for 1-year.<\/p>\n<p>We would like to thank the UNIGE-UZH Joint Seed Funding for its support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have received the good news that the project &#8220;SnowCover.CH: Monitoring Snow Cover changes over Switzerland using Earth Observations time-series&#8221; has been accepted.
